1. Choose Your University and Course
The first step to securing a UK Student Visa is to apply for and receive an unconditional offer from a licensed student sponsor. Once accepted, your university will issue a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), which is essential for your visa application.
2. Prepare Your Documents
You will need a valid passport, your CAS reference number, proof of financial support (maintenance funds), and potentially an ATAS certificate or tuberculosis test results depending on your home country.
3. Show Proof of Funds
You must prove you have enough money to pay for your course and support yourself. For London, this is currently £1,334 per month for up to 9 months. Outside London, it is £1,023 per month.
4. Apply Online
Apply online through the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) website. You will need to pay the visa fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS), which grants you access to the UK's National Health Service.
5. Attend Your Biometrics Appointment
Most applicants will need to attend a visa application centre to provide fingerprints and a photograph. Some may be able to use the "UK Immigration: ID Check" app.
