Format and Delivery
IELTS (International English Language Testing System): Offers both paper-based and computer-delivered options. The speaking test is a face-to-face interview with a human examiner.
PTE (Pearson Test of English) Academic: Entirely computer-based. The speaking test involves speaking into a microphone, and your answers are evaluated by an AI algorithm.
Scoring
IELTS uses a 9-band scale, with half-band increments. PTE uses a granular scale from 10 to 90. Some students find PTE's automated scoring more objective, particularly for the speaking and writing sections.
Results Turnaround
PTE is known for its speed, with results typically available within 48 hours. Computer-delivered IELTS takes 3-5 days, while paper-based IELTS takes 13 days.
Which is Easier?
Neither test is inherently "easier." It depends on your strengths. If you type fast and are comfortable speaking to a computer, PTE might suit you. If you prefer conversing with a real person and writing by hand, IELTS may be better.
